As the 4th of July approaches, many of us look forward to celebrating with family and friends. Parades, backyard BBQs, games, rides, fireworks, and sparklers fill our "day off" with joy and excitement. But have you ever paused to reflect on the true significance of this holiday? We celebrate because of the brave men and women who have sacrificed and continue to fight for our freedoms. Many of these active military members, including my eldest stationed at Luke AFB in Arizona, do not get the "day off" and cannot spend time with their loved ones. Inspired by their dedication, we have decided to send a little fun and comfort from home so they can share in the celebrations we enjoy, thanks to their service and sacrifice.
Sharon and I share a strong belief in supporting those who serve. When we combined our stores under one roof, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to collaborate on a project to show our support for the troops. Knowing many of them will not be home, we wanted to find a way to bring a little "home" to them. This is how The Hometown Hero Project came to be.
Introducing The Hometown Hero Project...
We are not only partnering with each other, but with our communities, both large and small, to collect donations and assemble care crates for our "Hometown Heroes." With contributions from generous donors and our esteemed vendors and suppliers, we aim to send tokens of home to service members just in time for Independence Day. While we deeply appreciate all military personnel, this initiative focuses on active-duty members, offering them a special surprise while they are away from home. We also have plans to honor our retired veterans with future projects.
How Can You Participate?
We are collecting donations at the store (Chicken Shed Primitives & The Parlour at 620 N, US-69, Huxley, IA) and through the donation button below. Both Sharon and I will match donations up to $300. Additionally, anyone who donates $50 or more will be entered into a drawing to win this beautiful, custom-carved wooden flag art piece handmade by Cory Jaeger, valued at $200. It measures almost 40" wide by just over 21" tall. These photos don't do this justice, to see this beauty in person, stop in the store to see for yourself! Donations will be accepted through June 23 to ensure the care crates are ready for the 4th of July.
How to Get Involved
You can make a donation by clicking the button below. Every contribution helps us create more substantial and meaningful packages for our Heroes. Should we receive an overflow of donations, we will also support the Til Valhalla Project, which raises awareness for veteran suicide. Learn more about their mission here.
Alternatively, if you have a special Hero you would like to send a package to, please fill out the form with their information, and we will ensure they receive a care crate. While donations are not required, they are greatly appreciated to help make these care crates truly special.
Stay Connected
Follow us on social media for updates on donation progress and the contents of the care crates. Together, let's show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by our service members and make this Independence Day a memorable one for all.
